Progress Report & Our Past Work
Jawad Welfare Organization, established in 2008 and registered with the Office of Registrar Joint Stock Companies and Firms, Azad Government of the State of Jammu & Kashmir, has been actively committed to uplifting marginalized communities, particularly women. The organization’s primary mission is to empower women by equipping them with vocational skills, thereby enabling them to achieve financial independence and improve their quality of life. This mission is accomplished through skill development programs, awareness campaigns, and various social welfare initiatives.
Over the years, the NGO has successfully executed numerous projects, with the support of donors, partners, and member contributions. These projects have not only provided vocational training but also addressed critical issues such as health awareness, education, and social support. By fostering entrepreneurship and creating income-generating opportunities, Jawad Welfare Organization has significantly contributed to the socio-economic development of women, especially in rural and underprivileged areas.
The organization’s approach involves identifying the needs of the community, mobilizing resources, and implementing sustainable programs to address those needs. This progress report highlights the key projects undertaken since the NGO’s inception, illustrating the impact made in various sectors. It aims to showcase our achievements and demonstrate the organization’s capability to execute impactful community development programs.
Vocational Centers (2007)
In 2007, Jawad Welfare Organization took a significant step toward empowering marginalized communities by establishing the foundation of the Jawad Vocational and Technical Institute. This initiative aimed to provide a structured environment where women could learn a variety of vocational skills, such as tailoring, embroidery, handicrafts, and basic computing. The objective was to equip women with practical abilities that would enable them to gain employment or even start small home-based businesses. By setting up this institute, the organization created a platform for women to enhance their self-confidence and break the cycle of poverty. The project laid a foundation for future skills development programs, creating a long-term impact on the community’s economic landscape. This effort helped pave the way for an ongoing commitment to vocational training and capacity-building efforts that continue to benefit local women, encouraging a more self-reliant society.
Rozgar Scheme (2008)
The 2008 Rozgar Scheme was a targeted approach to support entrepreneurial women who had business aspirations but lacked the financial means to achieve them. Through this project, the organization provided startup funds to 20 women, allowing them to initiate their own income-generating ventures. The businesses varied, ranging from small retail shops to handicrafts and beauty salons, creating diverse economic opportunities within the community. The financial support not only helped these women gain economic independence but also created a ripple effect within their families and communities, as it contributed to household incomes and improved living standards. This scheme emphasized the importance of self-reliance and entrepreneurship, promoting a culture where women could actively participate in economic activities and contribute to community development. The project fostered a shift in the mindset of the beneficiaries, enabling them to see themselves as active contributors to society rather than just recipients of aid.
Book Bank (2009)
Recognizing the need to support children’s education, Jawad Welfare Organization launched the Book Bank project in 2009. This initiative aimed to address the educational needs of underprivileged students by providing them with free books and learning materials. The project initially supported 40 children, ensuring they had the resources needed to continue their education without financial constraints. This initiative was not only about distributing books but also about promoting the importance of education in poverty-stricken areas. The organization worked with schools, parents, and community leaders to identify children who were at risk of dropping out due to the lack of basic educational resources. By ensuring these children had access to the necessary materials, the Book Bank project helped increase school attendance and academic performance. The initiative aimed to bridge educational disparities and foster a culture of learning, setting a strong foundation for these children’s future development.
Health Care Awareness Programme (2010)
In 2010, Jawad Welfare Organization expanded its efforts to address public health issues through the Health Care Awareness Programme. The goal of this program was to educate 200 community members on essential health practices, preventive healthcare, and common diseases. By conducting a series of seminars and workshops, the program aimed to enhance awareness about personal hygiene, maternal and child health, nutrition, and the prevention of communicable diseases. The training sessions were designed to be interactive, ensuring that participants could engage with health experts, ask questions, and gain practical advice on maintaining healthy lifestyles. The initiative also involved collaboration with local healthcare providers and volunteers to ensure that information was disseminated widely and that participants had access to further health services if needed. As a result, the program contributed to better health outcomes, reduced healthcare costs, and a more informed community that could make educated health choices.
Book Bank (2009)
Following the initial success of the Book Bank initiative, the project was extended in 2009 to continue providing educational support to more children. The extended phase involved the distribution of additional books and learning materials to an increased number of students. The initiative reached a larger audience by partnering with more schools and community groups, ensuring that children in even the most remote areas could benefit from the program. The extended Book Bank project helped reinforce the organization’s commitment to education as a key tool for social change, fostering an environment where children were encouraged to pursue their studies despite economic challenges. By continuously supporting students’ educational needs, Jawad Welfare Organization aimed to reduce the dropout rates and promote the long-term goal of creating a literate and skilled population.
Capacity Building (2013)
In 2013, the Capacity Building project was launched to address the need for skill development and job readiness among 180 individuals in the community. The program offered comprehensive training in various trades, including tailoring, carpentry, computer skills, and other vocational courses tailored to the local job market. The focus was on hands-on training to ensure that participants could apply their newly acquired skills in real-world settings. Additionally, the project included sessions on soft skills, such as communication, financial literacy, and entrepreneurship, which are essential for personal and professional growth. The organization collaborated with local businesses to provide internship opportunities for trainees, giving them practical exposure to the workplace. The project played a pivotal role in enabling beneficiaries to secure better job opportunities or start their own businesses, thereby improving their livelihoods and contributing to the economic development of the community.
Waseela e Rozgar (Skill Development) (2014)
The Waseela e Rozgar initiative in 2014 focused on providing vocational training to 250 beneficiaries with an emphasis on employable skills. The training programs were designed to cater to the evolving demands of the job market, covering trades such as mobile phone repair, sewing, computer applications, and more. This initiative aimed to equip participants with marketable skills that could help them secure sustainable employment or establish small businesses. By focusing on skill development, the project sought to address unemployment and underemployment among marginalized groups, particularly women and youth. The initiative also encouraged participants to seek micro-financing options to expand their business ideas, fostering a spirit of entrepreneurship and innovation within the community.
Widow Support Program (2015 – Present)
Since 2015, the Widow Support Program has provided ongoing financial assistance to 25 widows each month. The program recognizes the economic challenges faced by widows who often have limited or no sources of income after the loss of their spouses. By offering a steady income, the initiative aims to alleviate the financial burden and enable these women to maintain a dignified quality of life. Beyond just providing financial support, the program also offers guidance on savings, budgeting, and potential income-generating activities that could further empower these women to achieve economic self-sufficiency. The organization works closely with the beneficiaries to ensure that the support provided meets their needs and that they have access to other resources that could aid in their personal development.
Skill-based Training (2022)
In 2022, Jawad Welfare Organization continued its focus on skill development by launching a new training program for 60 beneficiaries. This program targeted youth and women, providing them with skills in areas such as tailoring, computing, and electrical repair. The aim was to enable participants to acquire practical abilities that could lead to employment or entrepreneurial ventures. The training also included career counseling and business development sessions to help participants understand the pathways to start their own businesses. The program’s comprehensive approach to skill development aimed to create a sustainable impact by not only teaching the skills but also guiding participants on how to effectively utilize them for income generation.
These projects illustrate Jawad Welfare Organization’s unwavering commitment to community development, demonstrating a holistic approach that integrates education, health, financial support, and skill development to improve the quality of life for marginalized groups. The organization remains dedicated to its mission of empowering women and fostering sustainable socio-economic progress.
